![]() With the buttonpad of your 3DS you can sail quite static over the water and wait for your sonar to start beeping. How does that work? Well, not entirely special. ![]() To win a competition you need to catch a bigger fish than your competitors. You participate in a first tournament and when you win you receive money with which you can buy better material and catch bigger fish. You start out as an amateur fisherman with a modest boat, a simple fishing rod and some bait at your disposal. Wait, wait, wait… Well, every game deserves a second chance. But as far as innovations are concerned, it ends there and that is unacceptable for a game that is in full swing in the shops. You can also participate in tournaments and choose from dozens of fishing rods and baits. It is true that you can create your own fisherman to your heart’s content, for example with your own face and other plastic surgery. It’s broadly similar to fishing in Ocarina of Time, but Tamsoft doesn’t seem to have taken any chances game-wise. What follows is a quiet game (huh?) that never really convinces, surprises or innovates. That’s what Ultimate Bass Fishing 3D offers. This is evident in the tranquility that the game radiates, one of the necessary ingredients for a wonderful afternoon of fishing. But Tamsoft tries and takes up the challenge with full courage. The lack of these all-important facets raises the question of whether fishing as the main theme is suitable for ‘a fun game that stays fun’. Moreover, in game form you also miss the smell of the lake, the wind fluttering through your hair, that coveted trophy on the wall and of course the delicious fish that adorns your table. Fishing remains a sport of waiting, waiting and more waiting. The infamous mini-game in Ocarina of Time may have been a smashing success putting it at the center of a video game might be guts rather than good marketing strategy. The Japanese studio apparently doesn’t care about this. AdvertisementsĬoming up with a full-fledged fishing game is still a bad idea. Because, dear fishing enthusiasts, here’s Angler’s Club: Ultimate Bass Fishing 3D for the 3DS. Reason enough to take this to an even higher level, developer Tamsoft must have thought. After the launch, people pulled out the fishing rod en masse, dived into the boat and literally brought the food to the table. Nintendo’s downright classic made fishing a popular and sporting pastime for many young gamers. ![]() Anyone who says games don’t mobilize people has never played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
